The Purpose of the Day of the LORD

2010.05.18

And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.  (Ezekiel 6:10 KJ2000)

The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Wail, Alas for the day! For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time for the nations. (Ezekiel 30:1-3 KJ2000)

God says sixty four times in the book of Ezekiel that he is bringing judgment upon Israel and the nations so they “shall know that I am the LORD!”   Israel prophetically speaks of the entire apostate Christian Church on earth in these days and the nations refer to those who do not consider themselves to be Christian.  The Day of Lord brings judgment upon both categories of people.  God designs the great judgments of these days to bring all people to the knowledge of himself.

Some people will come to this knowledge during their life times and will be able to enter into the millennial Kingdom of God.  According to Scripture they will have long natural lives.  Others will die in the judgments to come.   But, in both cases, God designs the judgments so that people begin to know their God.  As you read Ezekiel you will see that many, many people finally begin to “know” that Creator God is the LORD after they die.  This simple fact obliterates most Christian doctrine that teaches that men spend eternity in Hell if they fail to confess Christ during their short earthly life.

The purpose of the Last Days was to mold and perfect the individual stones (people) that God intended to use in his Kingdom during the Day of the LORD.  These God calls the “chosen,” the “elect,” the “overcomers,” and his “Bride.”  Many were called, but few were chosen.  These, and these alone, determined to know and do God’s will.   These are those who will rule with a “rod of iron” in the Kingdom.  This means that they legislate and judge according to God’s Law.  This does not mean that men become saved or even qualify to rule in the Kingdom by abject obedience to God’s Law.  These rulers merely consented to allow God to write his Law upon their hearts, thus completing the process of their creation.

“If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” (John 7:17 KJ2000)
